Ultra Grip Bonding Agent by Fusion Mineral Paint

Fusion Mineral Paint Ultra Grip Bonding Agent is designed for hard-to-paint surfaces where maximum adhesion matters most. Formerly sold by Homestead House as Bonding Agent, Ultra Grip helps Fusion Mineral Paint adhere to slick, glossy, and non-porous finishes that are often difficult to paint successfully. What is Fusion Ultra Grip?
Fusion Ultra Grip is a high-performance adhesive primer formulated for challenging surfaces such as laminate, melamine, thermofoil, lacquered finishes, and high-gloss coatings. It is especially helpful on surfaces that cannot be thoroughly scuff sanded or that typically resist paint adhesion.

Made with pure resin for exceptional bonding power, Ultra Grip Bonding Agent helps create a surface that Fusion Mineral Paint can grip to more effectively. It can also be used on metal, glass, and some plastics when added adhesion support is needed.

Important: Fusion Mineral Paint already adheres well to most clean plastics, metal, and glass without requiring Ultra Grip. Ultra Grip is best reserved for especially slick, glossy, or problem surfaces where extra adhesion is beneficial.

Surface Prep
For best results, clean the surface thoroughly before application. We recommend Fusion's TSP Alternative to remove grease, grime, and residue. Be sure any wax, furniture polish, silicone-based products, or Pledge-type buildup is fully removed, as these can interfere with adhesion.

How to Use Fusion Ultra Grip
First, clean the surface, lightly sand where possible, and clean again. Then apply a very thin coat of Ultra Grip using a clean, damp sponge or a Fusion Applicator Pad. Ultra Grip appears milky when wet and dries translucent with excellent clarity.

Pro Tip: Because Ultra Grip is extremely strong, thicker application can leave texture or visible brush marks. Apply sparingly and evenly with a sponge or Fusion Applicator Pad for the smoothest finish.

If lacing occurs during application, wipe the surface again with odorless mineral spirits to help remove any remaining silicone, oil polish residue, or surface contaminants.

Dry Time
For best adhesion on especially slick or difficult surfaces, allow Ultra Grip to dry for 12 hours before painting. You may be able to paint over it after a couple of hours in many cases, but on very tricky surfaces, applying paint too soon can reactivate the bonding layer before it has properly cured.

Once dry, continue with Fusion Mineral Paint. Clean up with water.

Ultra Grip is a water-based bonding primer with no harsh solvents or harmful chemicals. It cures through the evaporation of water, so giving it proper drying time is essential for best performance. A simple approach is to apply Ultra Grip in the evening and paint the following day.

Using Ultra Grip with Milk Paint
To improve Milk Paint adhesion on non-porous or shiny surfaces, mix 1 part Ultra Grip with 1 part already mixed Milk Paint, then apply to a clean surface. Allow it to dry for one full day before applying the next coat. For additional coats, you may need slightly less Ultra Grip. Always test your mixture and technique before starting a larger project. Using a bonding agent with Milk Paint will reduce chipping and improve adhesion on slick surfaces.

Note
Ultra Grip is not intended to block stains, tannins, or knots. For stain blocking or knot sealing, we recommend using Zinsser Clear Shellac.
