The IOD Baubles Mould by Iron Orchid Designs brings the graceful shapes of antique Christmas ornaments, turned-wood finials, and vintage glass baubles into beautifully dimensional castings. Originally released as part of IOD’s limited-edition Fall/Winter 2022 collection, this hard-to-find ornament mould features seven richly detailed designs ranging from elongated drops and architectural finials to rounded, scalloped, and intricately embellished bauble forms.

What makes the IOD Baubles Mould especially versatile is its symmetry. Cast two matching pieces and join them back-to-back to create dimensional 3D Christmas ornaments, pendants, and hanging decorations, or use a single casting flat against furniture, boxes, signs, frames, mixed-media pieces, and architectural decor.

The sculpted ribs, fluting, scrollwork, medallions, and turned details are beautiful straight from the mould and become especially striking with paint, metallic finishes, gilding wax, glaze, or an aged patina. As shown in our project photos, a simple gold finish transforms these castings into ornaments with the look of collected antique metal or hand-carved European Christmas decorations.

Important Use Notes:

• For IOD Air Dry Clay, press the clay firmly into every detail of the cavity and remove excess material from the back using the Micro-Rim as a guide
• Air dry clay castings can be released while still moist, making them easier to conform to curved furniture, boxes, signs, and other decorative surfaces
• Some shrinking, cracking, or slight warping is normal with paper-based air dry clay and can enhance an authentically aged finish
• A light dusting of cornstarch can help if air dry clay is sticking to the mould
• Casting resin produces more dimensionally consistent pieces with little to no shrinkage
• Follow the resin manufacturer’s mixing, curing, and safety instructions
• To make a dimensional ornament, cast two copies of the same symmetrical design and join them back-to-back
• Add ribbon, metallic cord, wire, beads, tassels, or crystals to turn finished castings into hanging ornaments
• Use an appropriate adhesive when attaching clay or resin castings to furniture, signs, frames, boxes, or other decorative surfaces
• Wash the mould gently with mild soap and water and dry thoroughly before storing
• If using the IOD Baubles Mould for edible materials, dedicate that mould to food use only and do not alternate between food and craft materials
