Handy Tips. While IOD Gilded Foil Transfers apply very similarly to other IOD transfers, there are a few helpful tips for applying them. Depending on the final top coat used, you can maximize or play down the final sheen of the transfer to fit your project's aesthetic. 

If you are familiar with traditional IOD Transfers, they apply similarly but may take a bit more patience in areas of fine detail. Take your time, and don’t press any harder than you usually would, as this can hinder the release rather than help.     

IOD Gilded Transfer Surface Prep. IOD Gilded transfers can be applied to many surfaces, depending on how they are prepared. For the best adhesion, IOD recommends sealing painted or porous surfaces with a satin or semi-gloss sealer and allowing it to dry thoroughly prior to applying your Gilded Transfer.
Sealing IOD Gilded Transfer.  Once applied, IOD highly recommends sealing with two topcoats of a water based sealer. This will enhance the durability of your project. The final sheen can be toned (more or less shimmer) depending on which protective top coat you use. To preserve the most shimmer, IOD has found that Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection Master Clear in Satin seems to do a good job for maximum reflectiveness. Two coats works best to eliminate any streaking.

About IOD Transfers. This high-quality rub-on transfer with non-stick carrier sheet comes in a 12 x 16-inch pad with eight sheets.  IOD transfers are quite versatile and can be stunning on large furniture pieces as well as DIY wall art, textiles, home accessories and decor! Use on walls, painted furniture, and other DIY projects to give give a different feel.  

The pad format makes it easy and efficient to store transfer pieces on their non-stick backings. Every IOD transfer comes with a specially designed tool to rub on the image as well as directions for how to apply it. If you’re more of a visual learner click here for a beginner video tutorial.

Aligning Transfers. Gridlines are printed on the transfer backing. This allows you to confidently position the image exactly where you want it on your decor project. The IOD transfer backing can also be used to burnish the transfer to ensure full adhesion.
