Please Note:  The contents of the DIY Dust are 25 g (0.88 oz) by weight, not volume.  The jar is larger than needed in order to allow the use of various brush sizes.  The jar will not be entirely filled (less than half-filled) as it settles during filling, and this is considered normal behavior.

Make new pieces whisper with age. Debi’s Design Diary DIY Decrepit Dust is a super-fine antiquing powder that falls into crevices, carvings, and corners to create the soft, believable build-up time leaves behind. Work it over still-tacky clear wax and watch details pop without muddying the whole finish. Choose from three tones—Dark for crisp shadow on light colors, White for chalky highlight on deeper hues, and Warm for a mellow, vintage patina. Each jar is sold by weight, not volume (headspace is normal), and a little goes a long way.

How to use

1. Paint your piece and let it dry completely.
2. Brush on a thin coat of wax (clear, white, whatever!) where you want aging—keep it slightly tacky.
3. Tap on a small amount of Decrepit Dust (Dark, White, or Warm) and work it into details with a soft brush.
4. Feather away excess; if you overdo it, “erase” with a touch of clear wax.
5. Allow the wax to set, then buff. Let cure fully before heavy use.

Tips

• Start sparingly and build—subtle layers look most authentic.
• Target spots where real dust settles: grooves, appliqué edges, turned legs, escutcheons.
• Dark = contrast on light paint; White = soften deep colors; Warm = gentle, antique glow.
• Always apply over tacky wax—that’s the binder that grabs the powder.

Where it shines

• Ornate moldings, raised panels, textured finishes, and anything with carved detail.
• When dark wax feels too heavy but you still want age and dimension.
